    Do we sell anything?

As we do many Executor clearances we are obliged to sell as much as we can for the benefit of the Estate, therefore there may be items in the sale that we would NOT accept through the door; beds, cookers and such items. If in doubt as to whether your goods are suitable, please ask at reception.

    Can items be collected?

Yes. But as we charge a collection fee of £40 + VAT per hour (2 men + a van round trip), it is in your interest to bring small items to the rooms.

    Where do items come from?

Most of the items we sell are submitted by local residents. We also contract to Banks, Courts, Solicitors, Estate Agents & the like.

    Are items insured?

Absolutely! We have insurance cover for the lower guide price of the goods held on our premises.

    When do we accept items?

We take in most items through the door, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9 am – 5 pm, and Friday 9 am – 1.00 pm, but we can also take in on the other days, it depends on what the items are and the client’s needs, if in doubt, please email or telephone us.

Can you put a reserve price on goods?

Yes, subject to a 10% auctioneers’ discretion.

    Valuations & home visits

    Valuations & home visits

Until recently, to get a valuation, one had to either have a valuer make a home visit or take the items to Southgate for an appraisal. Now, a few emailed photos can do much of the job in a fraction of the time; if the items seem suitable, you could bring them to us or we can then either send one of our valuers around or a van to collect, whichever is deemed the most practical.

Simply email your queries and/or photographs for assessment to southgateauctions@gmail.com, and we will recommend the best way forward.

If it is agreed that we are to visit the property to evaluate its contents, we must stress that nothing should be thrown away until we have been able to view the premises in their entirety; this includes the contents of lofts, garages, sheds, etc.

    Selling fees

We charge the seller 20% of the hammer price plus a £6.00 per lot entry fee; there are no extra handling, photographic, or insurance charges.

All our charges are plus VAT.

Entry fees are charged per sale, per lot, whether the lot sells or not. Commissions are only charged on sold lots.

If you sold an item with us for £200, our commission would be £40 (20%) + £6 lotting fee = £46 + VAT on our fees of £9.20, you would receive £200 – £55.20= £144.80

    Paying out

Unlike many Auction Houses, we can pay out by cash, cheque, or BACS, just a few days after the auction (subject to the Buyer(s) settling).
